I'm baaaaack. Apologies for my absence, I've been dealing with a few health issues. Fortunately we're in the clear, so I'll be back to posting as usual. :)
Instead of grouping a bunch of different types of choke together in a single post, I've decided to be more specific with the items in the poll. It felt reductive to just say "sleeper" when there are so many variations. This edition of the Featured Move series stars the powerfully-named "dragon sleeper".
Japanese professional wrestling legend Tatsumi Fujinami made his debut in 1971. During the early stages of his career he earned the nickname "The Dragon" and was later credited with inventing the dragon sleeper and the dragon suplex, both named after him. He still wrestles to this day!
There is apparently a clip floating around somewhere of another Japanese wrestler, Harold Sakata (who famously played Oddjob in Goldfinger), applying a dragon sleeper in 1955, though it obviously didn't have the name at that time. I've not been able to find that evidence, but I have seen a few comments on various message boards talking about it, so something to keep in mind at least.
