The full nelson is probably the best way to fully immobilize your opponent and put them on display. The origins of the name are somewhat unclear. Most sources I can find point to it being named after historic British naval admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), whose battle tactics involved surrounding the opponent to secure victory, most notably in the Battle of Trafalgar and Battle of the Nile. Though this didn't see any use until the early 19th century. Other sources attribute the inspiration/creation of the nelson holds to Bobby Nelson, whose in-ring career lasted from 1936 to 1959. However, since the term "full nelson" has been used since the 19th century, Bobby Nelson's involvement is disputed.
Though there are several variations of the nelson, all named after different segments of a whole, this post will only focus on the full nelson.
